28 November 2016	First Meeting of the Technical Advisory Group on Economic Statistics (TAGES) in the Arab Region	ESCWA convened the first Technical Advisory Group on Economic Statistics (TAGES) for the Arab Region on 9 and 10 November 2016, in Cairo. The meeting was attended by 21 participants representing 10 countries and 8 regional and international organizations. Palestine was elected as chair of the group and Morocco as co-chair, while ESCWA acted as secretariat. The ESCWA Statistical Committee recommended the establishment of this technical advisory group during its eleventh session in 2015.
11 December 2014	UN-ESCWA to Hold Fifth Session of Technical Committee on Liberalization of Foreign Trade and Economic Globalization	The Fifth Session of the UN-ESCWA Technical Committee on Liberalization of Foreign Trade and Economic Globalization will convene at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Beirut from 24 to 26 April 2007. The meetings will be attended by representatives of the ministries of trade and finance in member countries, in addition to representatives of relevant international and regional organizations as observers.

11 December 2014	ESCWA and IFPRI Urge Enhanced Regional Food Security	The Deputy Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) Nadim Khouri called for the need to take advantage of available opportunities to improve food security in the region through trade and foreign investments to ensure benefits for all. The call came in a statement delivered today by Khouri at the opening session of the international conference entitled “A Food Secure Arab World: A Roadmap for Policy and Research,” jointly organized by ESCWA and the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and held at the UN House in Beirut.
22 April 2016	Arab Catalogue for Gender Statistics	The catalogue is a compilation of gender statistics related activities and outputs implemented by the Arab countries and the Statistics Division at the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). The catalogue aims to promote good practices in compiling and disseminating gender statistics. It also gives incentives to countries to exert further effort towards improving gender statistics at the national level.
11 December 2014	ESCWA Holds Arab Region Preparatory Meeting for Rio+20 Conference	Cairo, 16 Oct 2011 (UN Information Service) — The UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) today opened the Arab Regional Preparatory Meeting for the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio +20), which will be held in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, 4-6 June 2012. The 16-17 Oct meeting is held at the League of Arab States (LAS) headquarters in Cairo and was organized in cooperation with LAS and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).
