AlDafa Visits Hariri’s Tomb Tomorrow Tribute to the Man who Brought ESCWA Back to Beirut |
On the occasion of the 35th Anniversary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), the UN Under-Secretary-General and ESCWA Executive Secretary Bader AlDafa visits the tomb of late Prime Minister Rafic Hariri tomorrow Tuesday, 21 July 2009, at 11:30 AM. The visit is a tribute to the man who brought ESCWA’s headquarters back to Beirut, its official and permanent seat. The UN Information Service kindly requests news media to grant this visit the highlight it deserves. |

This study promotes a coordinated and effective social vision that encompasses social and economic priorities of countries in the ESCWA region through a comparison between developed countries, namely, Canada and Norway, and countries at different stages of development, namely, Malaysia, Republic of Korea and Tunisia. |

Community Development Approach as a Tool for Formulating Social Policy at the Local level |
This paper seeks to emphasize that community development is a participatory process whereby consensus-building, open dialogue and the promotion of an active civil society are all key ingredients to spur the transformation that can result in long-term sustainable development. Given the importance of forming consensus, there is a strong need to create and build the capacity of those within a community to forge their own development strategies and to have an active debate regarding the central tenets. |

Social development bulletin No. 3: The post-2015 UN development agenda |
This bulletin explains the content of a report entitled “Realizing the Future We Want for All” that sets out a vision for the future based on the core values of human rights, equality and sustainability. It recommends that the goals and targets of the MDG framework be retained beyond 2015. In addition, this bulletin includes another report entitled “A Regional Perspective on the Post-2015 United Nations Development Agenda” which identifies key priority areas for a global development agenda. |

Support for the Library of the Iraqi Ministry of Planning and Development Cooperation |
Per request from the Iraqi Ministry, UNESCWA Iraq Task Force organized the transfer of a comprehensive collection of 1143 UNESCWA publications to the library of the Iraqi Ministry of Planning and Development Cooperation and its associated institutions. The publications will allow Iraqi researchers and practitioners to tap on the resources published by UNESCWA, at a time access to such resources through alternative channels like the Internet is very limited in Iraq. |
