Security Sector Transformation in Arab Transitions: Working for Change |
The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia and the Carnegie Middle East Centre held an expert group meeting on Security Sector Transformation in Arab Transitions: Working for Change. The meeting was held at the United Nations House in Beirut, on 17 and 18 December 2012, and was attended by representatives of Governments, security services, civil society and research centres, in addition to human rights activists, researchers and academics. |

The Bulletin on Population and Vital Statistics in the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) Region disseminates available data and statistics on ESCWA countries vital events (births, deaths, marriage and divorce). Data in this bulletin were compiled from national sources and a questionnaire prepared by ESCWA. The purpose of the Bulletin is to encourage countries to produce and disseminate vital statistics needed for better planning and to strengthen countries civil registration systems. |

International workshop on “Region After the War” |
The workshop was conducted in partnership with the local think tank, the Lebanese Centre for Policy Studies (LCPS). The Workshop was an attempt to generate a concerted effort to tackle the developments in Iraq and to examine feasible ideas that could improve Iraqi socio-economic conditions. The Workshop concluded its proceedings with a number of recommendations addressing both socio-economic and legal aspects of the situation in post-war Iraq. The workshop was attended by 80 participants of various nationalities. |

This bulletin provides data on, and ESCWA estimates of the gross domestic product (GDP), the consolidated national accounts during the period 2004-2008 and the estimated real GDP growth rates for 2009 for ESCWA member countries. It comprises three chapters. Chapter I contains tables on selected indicators including annual growth rates of real GDP, GDP at constant and current prices, GDP per capita, national disposable income per capita, gross capital formation, and percentage of net exports to GDP. |
