The newsletter on the knowledge society presents updates on the main activities of the Technology for Development Division (TDD) of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). In its second issue, the newsletter provides briefings on the activities of TDD for 2015, under its thematic clusters of work, covering the three TDD entities, namely the Innovation Section, the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Policy Section, and the ESCWA Technology Centre (ETC). It also presents the regional advisory services on technology for development. |

Moussa Visits UN-ESCWA, Meets Executive Secretary |
League of Arab States Secretary-General Amr Moussa held talks on Wednesday 21 November 2007 with UN-ESCWA Executive Secretary, Bader Omar Al-Dafa, at the UN House in Beirut. Following the meeting, Moussa told reporters that he came to Lebanon on a quick visit "amid circumstances known to all, and in view of the efforts that you have been following up on". Moussa was referring to talks with Lebanese officials on the presidential impasse. "I seized the opportunity to visit my friend Mr. Bader Omar Al-Dafa to congratulate him on his post as Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations". |

RICCAR Vulnerability Assessment Task Force on Sensitivity Indicators Meeting |
Within the framework of the RICCAR, ESCWA and ACSAD organized the RICCAR/ACCWaM Vulnerability Assessment Task Force on Sensitivity Indicators Meeting from 21-21 October 2014 in Beirut at the UN House. This Task Force is basically a small ad hoc working group that was established to technically review, with regional experts, the indicators and associated maps that will support the preparation of the vulnerability assessment at the Arab regional level. The sectoral statistics team participated at the UN-ECE Ad Hoc Group Meeting on Supply of Fossil Fuels, Geneva, 10-11 November 2004, organized by the Sustainable Energy Section of the Industrial Restructuring, Energy and Enterprise Development Division at ECE. The participation was a follow-up on the recommendations on UNFC Classification of energy reserves/resources that was held in Beirut in collaboration with OPEC, UNSD and ECE in Beirut, 1 June 2004. |
