Information Society Indicators |
Statistical data and indicators regarding the use and impact of ICT help policymakers to formulate strategies related to ICT-driven economic growth and social development. In recognition of the need for improvement of data and indicators, and to close the data gap at the international level, the global Partnership on Measuring ICT for Development was launched in 2004. ESCWA and other United Nations regional commissions have undertaken several steps to fulfil the objectives of the Partnership. |

Making disability visible in statistics - Side Event at the 50th Statistical Commission |
The side-event focus on means of bridging the gap between policy-makers, civil society and statisticians, which constitutes a major obstacle and a hindrance to making progress on development of policies based on evidence and thus improving the lives of persons with disabilities. It will include presentation of a generic SDG-CRPD Framework of around 100 standard indicators that links CRPD articles to SDG policy areas, including SDG indicators that countries can disaggregate by disability status. |

Water Resources Issues in the ESCWA Region: Country Fact Sheets |
The purpose of these Country Fact Sheets is to examine the water situation in the region, with particular emphasis on the desalination industry as a growing source of freshwater in many of the ESCWA countries. The Fact Sheets examine the trend in population growth, freshwater availability, and water use, highlighting the consumption trends of the most waterintensive sectors in each country. The desalination of each country is presented in terms of quantity produced, type of technology and type of feedwater used, and provides the predicted future desalination volume. |

ESCWA Study on Air Transport |
This study was carried out at the request of ESCWA member countries through the Committee on Transport of the Commission. It reviews the ways in which the region is responding to the liberalization and commercialization of air transport and makes a number of recommendations to regional Governments regarding regional cooperation, the establishment of a fair and open air transport market, the coordination of air traffic control, the use of information and communications technology, environmental protection and the removal of procedural barriers to trade and transport. |

Launching of the National Campaign for Air Pollution Reduction in Lebanon through Efficient Use in Land Transportation |
Supported by ESCWA, the Lebanese Ministry of Environment and the UN Development Program (UNDP), IPT Energy Centre (IPTEC) launched today the “National Campaign for Air Pollution Reduction in Lebanon through Efficient Use in Land Transportation” . The event was held under the patronage of Lebanese Minister of Environment Nazem Khoury at the Ministry premises. In addition to the minister, speakers included Roula Majdalani, ESCWA Director of Sustainable Development and Productivity Division (SDPD) and IPTEC President Toni Issa. |

Review of Sustainable Development and Productivity, Issue No. 4 |
