Beirut, 13 June 2011 (UN Information Service) — In cooperation with ESCWA, the Federation of the Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture in Lebanon and the Association of Lebanese Industrialists, the Order of Engineers and Architects in Beirut and the International Finance Corporation, Lebanon Opportunities Magazine is holding a conference on ‘Green Business Opportunities in Lebanon’ on Tuesday 14 June at 4:00 PM at the Movenpick Hotel.

The Arab regional dialogue will be organized around the five action tracks of the Summit and examine them through the lens of the different stakeholders (NGO, research and academia, government, private sector, etc.), and will consider cross-cutting issues such as finance, innovation, and empowerment of youth, women, and other vulnerable groups.

ESCWA is collaborating with renowned Lebanese actress Carmen Lebbos on the issue of Road Safety through a series of events and awareness campaigns. The partnership kicks off with the participation of Lebbos in the upcoming Launch of the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2010- 2011, to be held under the auspices of caretaker Lebanese Minister of Interior Ziad Baroud on Tuesday 17 May at the UN House in Beirut.

This paper examines the trends and levels of key demographic indicators for the Arab region, namely population size, growth rate, distribution, fertility and mortality levels, age structure and international migration. In doing so, the paper will mainly build on data from the World Population Prospects: The 2012 Revision, as well as other United Nations databases as relevant. The main purpose of the paper is to present policymakers and researches with a regional reference for selected demographic indicators and their key implications for development.
