The Demographic Profile of the Arab Countries |
This issue of The Demographic Profile of the Arab Countries examines the trends in population size, growth and distribution in the 22 countries of the Arab region, highlights the course of fertility and mortality transitions, and discusses the implications of fertility transition on the population age structure during the period 1980-2050. It also studies the levels and trends in international migration during the period 1990-2010 with particular reference to labor migration. |

High Level Meeting on the Yemen National Dialogue |
The High-level Meeting on the Yemen National Dialogue was held in Beirut, on 11 and 12 June 2014. The meeting was attended by ministers, deputies, senior officials and activists from Yemen, to discuss all social, political and economic pillars as framed by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) initiative which, in November 2011, led to the formation of a Government of national unity; a Military Committee for Establishing Safety and Security; the election of a new president; constitutional and electoral reform; and the National Dialogue Conference. |

From 31 January to 5 February 2016 Istanbul hosted the workshop on “Good Governance and the Sustainable Development Goals.” Organized by ESCWA in collaboration the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Iraq, the workshop aimed at building the capacity of Iraqi public sectors institutions through helping officials to adapt the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda to national context; incorporate participatory governance practices; and adopt an effective communication strategy that can promote public trust and the citizens’ engagement in the SDGs agenda. |
