On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the UN Information Centre in Beirut (UNIC-Beirut) and the Communications and Information Unit (ECIU) at the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN-ESCWA) in collaboration with the UN-ESCWA Centre for Women, are organizing a panel discussion entitled “Together for the Empowerment of Women”, on Monday 9 March 2015 at the Phoenicia Hotel, Beirut (Carthage Room), at 11:30 AM.

On 29 and 30 March 2011, ESCWA held an Expert Group Meeting on “Mainstreaming Gender in the Plans and Programmes of the Ministries of Labour in Selected ESCWA Member Countries” at the UN House in Beirut. The two-day meeting was a follow-up to a workshop on gender mainstreaming and organizational change for participants from labour ministries and national women machineries in six member countries - Bahrain, Kuwait, Lebanon, Palestine, Qatar, Sudan and Syria - that was organized in August 2010.

The Memorandum of Understanding on Maritime Transport Cooperation in the Arab Mashreq is an endeavor to establish cooperation and integration between members of ESCWA in the Arab Mashreq region. This Memorandum recognizes that maritime transport plays an important role in strengthening intraregional and foreign trade and promotes the economic and social integration of the ESCWA region and the Arab region in general.
