The Committee on Women of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) was established pursuant to resolution 240 (XXII) of 17 April 2003, which was endorsed by Economic and Social Council resolution 2003/9 of 18 July 2004. It was mandated to follow up on global and regional conferences addressing women’s advancement and facilitate the participation of member States in related global discussions. It was also tasked with the coordination of regional efforts towards the implementation of its resolutions and recommendations. |

ESCWA Meets in Abu Dhabi on Traffic Casualty Reduction |
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), is organizing a workshop in Abu Dhabi for "Setting Regional and National Road Traffic Casualty Reduction Targets in the ESCWA Region" on 16-17 June; The workshop will discuss strengthening national capacities of low and middle income countries to reduce road traffic casualties and the establishment of national committees for road safety. The meeting will also review the current statistics on road safety and developments in the field of road safety management in member countries. |

UN-ESCWA (The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia), in partnership with the Arab Science and Technology Foundation (ASTF), holds an expert group meeting on “Harnessing Technology for Enhanced Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Productivity and Competitiveness” on 3 and 4 November 2007 at the JW Marriott Hotel in Mirage City in Cairo, Egypt. The expert group meeting will be held concurrently and complementarily with the ASTF “Made in the Arab World” Competition finals, scheduled to open at 9:00 AM on Saturday 3 November. |
