ESCWA Launches “Under an Olive Tree in Palestine” Poster |
Beirut, 26 Oct 2011 (UN Information Service) — “Under an Olive Tree in Palestine” is the slogan of a poster launched today by ESCWA as part of its efforts to raise awareness about the socio-economic repercussions of Israeli occupation in Palestine, including settlements and the policies of blockades and closures. The poster was distributed to UN headquarters in New York, Geneva, Vienna and to many UN agencies in Lebanon. ESCWA also provided the Palestinian Authority and some non-governmental organizations with copies for use and circulation. |

National Training Workshop on: The Role of Private- Public Partnership in the Implementation of Renewable Energy Projects in Rural Areas |
ESCWA has since 2011 been coordinating with ESCAP and the other UN-Regional Commissions in the implementation of an ESCAP lead project on “Enhancing energy security and improving access to energy services through development of public-private renewable energy partnerships”. Within this project’s context, a national team was established in Jordan, and was charged with collecting data on and identifying Renewable Energy (RE) PPPs case studies in poor and/or rural areas of Jordan. |

ESCWA Marks International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian People |
On Friday 29 November 2013, an air of Palestine wafted through Beirut, which stood in solidarity in a day marked by ESCWA at the UN House. Every year on the same date, the Commission marks this day, stipulated by the UN General Assembly in 1977. This stand of solidarity is a reminder of the internationally-agreed upon rights of the Palestinian people, expressed through UN resolutions and still awaiting implementation while Palestinians endure an occupation that has not respected most of these international resolutions. |
