High Level Meeting on the Yemen National Dialogue |
The High-level Meeting on the Yemen National Dialogue was held in Beirut, on 11 and 12 June 2014. The meeting was attended by ministers, deputies, senior officials and activists from Yemen, to discuss all social, political and economic pillars as framed by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) initiative which, in November 2011, led to the formation of a Government of national unity; a Military Committee for Establishing Safety and Security; the election of a new president; constitutional and electoral reform; and the National Dialogue Conference. |

Beirut-Cairo, 23 July 2019 (ESCWA)--On 15-17 July, ESCWA held in Cairo, Egypt, a regional workshop to discuss and approve “The Common Arab Regional Job Competencies Framework for Senior Public Servants from the Perspective of the Agenda 2030 and Public Policy”. Participants included senior civil servants from public institutions in 10 Arab countries mandated to lead administrative reform and support their countries national development. |

Adopting Good Agriculture Practices (GAPs) for Enhanced Food Safety in the Arab Region |
Food safety, which is an integral part of food security, is essential for protecting consumers from the hazards of foodborne illnesses that may be introduced at different stages of the food value chain starting right from production and all the way to retail and food preparation. Therefore, addressing food safety is important and demands tight standards to be followed. To achieve this goal Good Agriculture Practices (GAP) were introduced aiming at eliminating sources of food hazards while also improving overall conditions for farm workers and protecting the environment. |

According to the International Organization for Migration, by 2010, the world migrant population stock will have reached 214 million, meaning that one in every 35 people globally will be a migrant. Furthermore, a combination of current socio-economic and demographic trends is expected to further increase the scale of international migration. Any comprehensive response, aimed at managing the complexities of this situation, needs to be supported by reliable data. However, statistics on international migration in the ESCWA region are scarce and poorly circulated. |

Nanotechnology is one of the most important emerging technologies to help meet these challenges. It can provide effective and environmentally acceptable solutions. |
