Review of the Millenium Development Goals on Agenda of UNESCWA 24th Ministerial Session |
Participants in the UNESCWA 24th Ministerial Session are due to discuss Achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in the UNESCWA Region based on a report prepared by UNESCWA in 2005 with the collaboration of several United Nations agencies in the region. The report was prepared in order to facilitate the review of follow-up action by policymakers aimed at achieving the MDGs by 2015. |

ESCWA: The Arab region faces two scenarios for 2021 |
Beirut, 29 December 2020--The Arab region faces two economic scenarios for 2021: an optimistic one projecting a growth rate of 3.5% and one that is less optimistic, limiting growth prospects to 2.8%. The actual path will hinge on the ability of Arab countries to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic, which has caused losses of about $140 billion for the region, resulting in an estimated -3% growth contraction in 2020. |

In line with the Global Compact on Migration guiding principles that call for a whole-of-government and whole-of society approach in the GCM, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) organized an online dialogue with Inter-State Consultation Mechanisms (ISCMs) on the GCM Regional Review in the Arab Region on 28 January 2021, in cooperation with the members of the Regional UN Network on Migration in the Arab Region. |
