ESCWA Holds Arab Region Preparatory Meeting for Rio+20 Conference |
Cairo, 16 Oct 2011 (UN Information Service) - The UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) today opened the Arab Regional Preparatory Meeting for the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio +20), which will be held in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, 4-6 June 2012. The 16-17 Oct meeting is held at the League of Arab States (LAS) headquarters in Cairo and was organized in cooperation with LAS and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP). |

Lebanese House Speaker Nabih Berri opened today ESCWA’s 26th Ministerial Session held under the theme “Youth are Change” at the UN House, Beirut, amidst a crowd of Arab ministers, officials and media representatives. In addition to the statement of Berri, the opening of the Session featured statements by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, delivered on his behalf by ESCWA Executive Secretary Bader AlDafa, who read ESCWA’s statement well. |

UN Launches World Economic Situation and Prospects Report 2010 in Beirut |
ESCWA and the UN Information Centre in Beirut (UNIC-Beirut) today launched the 2011 World Economic Situation and Prospects report, published yearly by the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The conference featured a statement by UNIC Beirut Director Bahaa Elkoussy, and a detailed regional presentation by Simon Neaime, the Head of the Economic Analysis Section in ESCWA’s Economic Development and Globalization Division. |
