Third Model ESCWA Conference |
Seventy students from the American University of Beirut (AUB) and Université Saint-Joseph (USJ) will gather on Saturday, 17 November 2018 at the UN House in the Lebanese capital for the annual Model ESCWA Conference. Now in its third year, the conference is a key component of ESCWA’s community outreach and youth engagement efforts. |

Wealth Inequality and Closing the Poverty Gap in Arab Countries: The Case for a Solidarity Wealth Tax |
High poverty rates coupled with high concentration of wealth in the Arab region have highlighted the need for a stronger civic solidarity. We investigate the concentration of wealth across the Arab region and juxtapose it with the incidence of poverty. We assess the scope for fiscal redistribution from the wealthiest 10 percent to the poor. |

Impact of COVID-19 on Migrants and Refugees in the Arab Region |
This publication examines the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on migrants and refugees in the Arab region. It focuses on several relevant areas including health, income security, the economy and education. It also addresses return and voluntary repatriation, and trafficking in persons during the pandemic. The paper and its accompanying policy brief present a set of actionable short- and medium-term policy recommendations to guide countries’ responses to these issues.
