Training for Staff from the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation in Jordan (MOPIC) on Computable General Equilibrium Modelling |
ESCWA with its partners UNCIEF Jordan and the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation (MOPIC) in Jordan have organized their first two day online training for staff from MOPIC and Jordan’s Ministry of Finance on “Computable General Equilibrium modelling”. Around the world governments and policymakers have a growing interest in designing smarter economic policy options, particularly in the context of assessing the socio-economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and developing a national recovery plan. ESCWA is responding to this demand by directly supporting Member State in respect to capacity building and ESCWA’s Modelling Toolbox.

National Technical Cooperation Workshop in the UAE |
“The United Arab Emirates (UAE) National Technical Cooperation Workshop” opened today in Dubai, organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and the Ministry of Economy at the UAE. In his opening remarks, ESCWA Director of the Program, Planning and Technical Cooperation Division of ESCWA Roberto Laurenti, expressed the Commission’s gratitude to the Assistant Under-Secretary-General at the Emirati Ministry of Economy, Mr. Mohamad Saleh Shalwah for his full support in holding this meeting. |

Civil Society Dialogues: Exploring New Frontiers – Egypt’s Transition |
In light of the sweeping changes in the Arab region, ESCWA has launched a series of civil society dialogues entitled: "Exploring New Frontiers". These dialogues aim to take stock of the transition that Arab countries are going through and discuss the changing role of civil society and the emerging challenges and windows of opportunity. They are also intended to discuss the process of institutionalizing new citizen participation frameworks, and ensuring social cohesion. |

Training Workshop on Sand and Dust Storms in the Arab Region |
The objective of this training workshop organized by ESCWA and other partners is to enhance the technical capacities of operational and research meteorologists from Arab States on the analysis, prediction and projection of sand and dust storms, including the use of ground and satellite observations of dust, dust storm modelling and prediction, dust classification and data assimilation in dust models. |
