Beirut, 15 March 2021 (ESCWA)--ESCWA marked International Women’s Day on 11 March by a webinar on "The Role of Women in Leadership in the Arab Region", during which six Arab women shared their successful stories and experiences in assuming the positions they now hold.
 

Officials as well as cultural and concerned personalities today gathered at the Beirut based UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) to listen to school children appealing to promote road safety in Lebanon and the Arab world. 
The ceremony was intended to launch a three-day workshop organized by ESCWA on Road Safety under the umbrella of the 3rd UN Global Road Safety Week, and under the auspices of the Lebanese Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Mr. Nohad El Mashnouk. 

Launched in mid-2006, the United Nations Development Account project entitled "Knowledge Networks through ICT Access Points for Disadvantaged Communities" is currently in its final stages of implementation. Led by ESCWA and co-jointly managed with other United Nations Regional Commissions (RCs) – namely ECA, ECE, ECLAC and ESCAP, its main objective is to empower disadvantaged communities by transforming selected ICT access points/telecentres into networked knowledge hubs.

ESCWA is convening the first “Model ESCWA” at 9:00 AM on Saturday, the 10th September 2016, at the UN House, Beirut. This project is held in partnership with the Centre for Civic Engagement and Community Service (CCECS) at the American University of Beirut (AUB).
