Promoting Best Practices on Sustainable Rural Livelihoods in the ESCWA Region |
In December 2009, ESCWA organized an Expert Group Meeting on Adopting the Sustainable Livelihoods Approach for Promoting Rural Development in the ESCWA Region. The meeting, which was attended by 32 experts from various countries of the region, aimed to allow participants to better understand the importance of livelihood approaches to rural development, to assess its comparative advantage with regard to other approaches as well as to assess obstacles to its adoption and implementation. |

Progress in Achievement of the Millennium Development Goals in the ESCWA Region: A Gender Lens |
Since their adoption in 2000, gender experts criticized the MDG for their failure to adequately include a gender component in their goals, targets and indicators. In addition to reducing gender equality to one goal, the target of goal 3 on promoting gender equality and empowering women, is limited to eliminating gender disparity in primary education, preferably by 2005, and all levels of education by 2015. |

Within the framework of her visit to the Kingdom of Morocco to participate in the Second High-Level Meeting on Transition to Democracy, which was organized by ESCWA in the City of Rabat on 5-6 February 2013, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and ESCWA Executive Secretary Rima Khalaf met with Moroccan Minister Delegate for Public Affairs and Governance Mohammad Boulif. The visit intended to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between Morocco and ESCWA. |

Green Technology Transfer, Adaptation and Investment Required for Implementing SDG 12: Sustainable Consumption and Production |
For enhancing the capabilities of Arab countries in Green Technology, ETC will hold the expert group meeting on “Green Technology Transfer, Adaptation and Investment Required for Implementing SDG 12: Sustainable Consumption and Production” in Amman on 29-30 July 2019. The meeting will also discuss green investments needed in the region to support the green transformation in the agriculture sector and conflict solid waste management.
This meeting comes in the light of the role of ETC in enhancing the capabilities of innovation and technology in Arab countries, acquiring the necessary tools and capacities to accelerate economic and social development, and in finding suitable ways to help member countries on the best means of development and success |
