11 December 2014	AUST Students Visit ESCWA, Learn about its Objectives and Programmes	A group of students of different majors from the American University of Science and Technology (AUST) visited ESCWA on 19 May 2012, where they learned about the Commission’s objectives and programmes. Chief of ESCWA Social Participatory Development Section (SPDS) Maha Yahya briefed them on the role of ESCWA as one of the United Nations Regional Commissions and the opportunities and challenges facing the region. She focused on regional priority agenda items and the Commission’s work with civil society organizations.

2 April 2021	Capacity-Building Workshop on “The Use of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Technologies and Applications for Rural Development in Lebanon”	Within the framework of the “Regional Initiative for Promoting Small-Scale Renewable Energy Applications in Rural Areas of the Arab Region (REGEND)” Project, the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), in partnership with the Municipality of Chaqdouf, is organizing a capacity-building workshop on “The Use of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Technologies and Applications for Rural Development in Lebanon”. This workshop will introduce rural women to renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies and applications in rural areas and will raise their awareness on how they can enable and promote sustainable rural development, gender and youth empowerment, and economic benefits through their proper integration with productive activities.
13 July 2018	In Beijing, ESCWA participates in Belt and Road Global Energy Interconnection Forum	The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) recently participated in the Belt and Road Global Energy Interconnection Forum of the Arab League Countries in Beijing, China, which aimed to promote energy exchange and cooperation between China and Arab countries.
6 April 2018	Senior leaders from Islamic Development Bank Group and ESCWA renew longstanding partnership	On the sidelines of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group’s 43rd Annual Meeting held in Tunisia this year, senior leaders from the Bank and the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) met to reaffirm their partnership to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Arab region.
7 September 2018	Technical Committee of the ESCWA Technology Centre, 6th Meeting	This meeting will be held in accordance with the ETC Statute to give guidance to the Centre on its work program for 2019 based on the outcome of the 30^th ministerial session and key regional technological priorities that relate to its work, as well as to identify countries’ priorities and challenges in harnessing national capabilities in science, technology, and innovation in the implementation of the sustainable development goals. The specific objectives of the meeting are: Discuss the translation of the outcome of ESCWA ministerial session (including Beirut Consensus and the outcome of the high level three round tables) into priority areas that could be included in ETC work program for 2019. Deliberate on technology priorities and needs of member countries that fall within ETC strategic objectives and areas of intervention.
11 December 2014	Food Security and Safety Discussed in Rio + 20	During the Rio+20 Conference, which took place in Rio de Janeiro on 20-22 June 2012, ESCWA joined hands with the German Agency of International Cooperation (GIZ), the League of Arab States (LAS), the Arab Forum for Environment and Development (AFED) and the Arab Network for Environment and Development (RAED), to evaluate food security in the Arab region, in a panel discussion that gathered around 50 participants.
8 December 2016	1st Arab Leadership Dialogue on Science Advice to Governments	The UN- ESCWA Technology Center (ETC) and the Royal Scientific Society of Jordan (RSS) in partnership with the International Network for Government Science Advice (INGSA), and CRDF Global will organize the 1st Arab Leadership Dialogue on Science Advice to Governments that will take place in Jordan (Dead Sea) on December 13-14, under the patronage of HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, President of the Royal Scientific Society and President of the Board of Governors of the UN-ETC.
