11 December 2014	ICT Policy Makers to Attend UNESCWA Workshop Tuesday	Policy-makers from governmental institutions in charge of ICT policy development, particularly from least developed and post-conflict countries in the region, will attend a Workshop on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Policy Making in UNESCWA Member Countries. Organized by UNESCWA in coordination with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), the workshop will last from 2 to 4 May 2006, at the UN House, Beirut.
11 December 2014	ESCWA Participates in UNFCCC/COP 18	In line with ESCWA mandate to follow-up on progress of international conventions and provide support to Member Countries in implementing and meeting their commitments to international goals and agreements, the Commission participated in the 18th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the 8th session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol, held in Doha, Qatar (COP18/CMP8) on 26 November-7 December 2012.

8 August 2016	Khawla Mattar of Bahrain Appointed as Deputy Executive Secretary of ESCWA	On the 2nd of August 2016, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Ms. Rima Khalaf announced the appointment of Ms. Khawla Mattar (The Kingdom of Bahrain) as Deputy Executive Secretary for Programme Support. Ms. Mattar is bringing with her a vast working experience in development and in political offices of the UN. She has also worked closely on issues of gender; equality; human rights; migrant workers; rights at work for all and children’s rights.
