The League of Arab States and the Ministry of Social Solidarity in the Arab Republic of Egypt, in collaboration with the Statistics Division at the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), held the Arab Regional Seminar on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities as part of the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Sustainable Development Plan 2030, on 13-14 January 2019 at the headquarters of the Secretariat of the League of Arab States.
 

To explore the challenges and the opportunities for Carbon capture , use and storage (CCUS)  and examine the side effects of this technology for the Arab region. Strengthening the capacity of Governments of Arab countries on mainstreaming the energy-related SDGs into their national development plans and within the context of the SDPD work program for 2016-2017.

After an intensive discussion at the UN House, international and regional experts as well as senior government officials agreed that engaging citizens in attaining national development agendas is an imperative. Over 35 participants attended the meeting organized by UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) and ESCWA, from 3 to 6 December 2012, in Beirut. Taking cue from their governments at the Rio+20 Summit this June, the participants agreed on the importance of governance and the inclusion of socially vulnerable groups in achieving sustainable development.

ESCWA Deputy Executive Secretary Nadim Khoury stressed that the League of Arab States (LAS) and ESCWA are longtime partners in development in the region, adding that since its establishment, the Commission has viewed its partnership with LAS as a critical component in its regional role, both by mandate and in practice.
