This document is an extended summary of a publication on Tracking Food Security in the Arab Region using a Monitoring Framework developed by ESCWA in collaboration with member countries, AOAD and FAO and supported by Sida. It lays out the framework and its development and highlights that high- and middle-income Arab countries are concerned with overnutrition and low-income countries with undernutrition while hotspot areas needing immediate action include yields, food import dependency, prevalence of anemia among women and political instability.

Within the framework of the “Regional Initiative for Promoting Small-Scale Renewable Energy Applications in Rural Areas of the Arab Region (REGEND)” Project, the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), in partnership with the General Commission for Regional Development (CGDR) and the National Agency for Energy Conservation (ANME) in Tunisia, is organizing a capacity-building workshop on “Marketing techniques and mechanisms of rural women's products”.
 
This workshop aims to build the knowledge, scientific and technical capacities of Rural Women in the region of Chorbane, Governorate of Mahdia, Republic of Tunisia – in particular, those belonging to "Al-Amal" Agricultural Development Group for Rural Women – on techniques and mechanisms for marketing local products and how to benefit from them to develop and sustain Rural Women’s incomes, as well as to create a participatory dynamic to facilitate the marketing of Rural Women's products, and to provide them with the necessary knowledge on marketing laws and practical skills regarding the use of modern techniques and mechanisms for marketing, through a simplified scientific and distinctive approach integrating lectures, exercises, and practical training.
