ETC Convenes 6th Meeting of Board of Governors |
On 14 November 2016, President of the Royal Scientific Society of Jordan (RSS) and of ESCWA Technology Centre (ETC) Board of Governors Princess Sumaya bint Al Hassan headed the 6th Meeting of the Board, which includes representatives of 16 Arab States, to discuss and adopt ETC 2017 work plan. The meeting was held in Amman, Jordan. In her opening speech, Princess Sumayya underlined the importance of scientific research in comprehensive and sustainable human development, and its clear and efficient impact on solving economic, development, and even political issues. |

ESCWA training on Democratic Governance paves way for improved participation |

In line with its mandate to support member States to reach effective governance and capable institutions, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) concluded a three-day workshop on “Building Capacities for Partnership in Democratic Governance.” |

Food Security and Nutrition |
The Arab region faces a number of structural challenges to food security and nutrition. These include high population growth rates, a limited natural resource base, especially with regard to land and water, the impact of climate change and the heavy reliance of international markets on food imports. The region also has a relatively high prevalence of undernourishment, caused by nutrient deficiencies and is relatively unique in the sense that obesity and the problems associated with it are on the increase. |

ESCWA Hub to NetMundial |
ESCWA hosted a regional hub for remote participation in the Global Multistakeholder Meeting on the Future of Internet Governance, known as "NetMundial", on 23-24 April 2014 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. This activity enabled ESCWA team working on the Arab Internet Governance Forum (Arab IGF) and experts from the Arab region, active in the Arab IGF process, to participate remotely in the event through a live connection with the event in Brazil. |
