Within the context of Food Security, ESCWA is implementing a Sida funded project on “Promoting food and water security through cooperation and capacity development in the Arab region” that includes a component on enhancing capacity in the Arab countries to assess the status of food security. In this respect, a Regional Framework on Monitoring Food Security in the Arab Region was developed in consultation and coordination with the Arab Organization for Agriculture Development (AOAD), FAO, national focal points and experts from the region.

Publication develops a risk assessment framework for the Arab region

This study seeks to identify sources of the Arab region’s energy vulnerability that prevents member states’ ability to ensure universal access to affordable, reliable and modern energy services for current and future generations. The study also aims to assess strategies to tackle energy vulnerability effectively while providing a perspective on how different groups can contribute.

This report focuses on the analysis of the most recent socio-economic developments to meet two objectives. The first one aims at demonstrating the analytical observation of routinely monitored economic and social variables of the Arab region. The second area of focus aims at an in-depth analysis on the reforms of the energy subsidy system and its macroeconomic implication, with particularly focus on two countries: Tunisia (oil importer) and Saudi Arabia (oil exporter).
