National accounts studies of the Arab region, No. 34 |
Issue No. 34 of the National Accounts Studies of the Arab Region includes available data and estimates made by the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) of GDP at both current and constant prices, in addition to the consolidated national accounts for each ESCWA member country during the period 2009-2013, and the estimated real GDP growth for 2014. Data were compiled from national statistical sources and by using questionnaires prepared by ESCWA. This publication is intended for economists, social researchers and policymakers. |

ESCWA Annual Report, 2006 |
The ESCWA Annual Report reviews the activities of the Commission in 2006, which were severely affected by the devastating war of aggression that was unleashed against Lebanon in that year. Despite the disruption caused by the war and its aftermath, the Commission has continued to efficiently deliver its services to member countries and was able to implement its work programme, realizing various achievements that have contributed to development efforts in the region and, in particular, reconstruction efforts in Lebanon. |

Land Degradation Assessment and Prevention: Selected Case Studies from the ESCWA Region |
Critical issues confronting policymakers, administrators, staff and stakeholders in combating and preventing land degradation are assessed in this review, with particular emphasis on determining the successful implementation of programmes. The causes and impact of land degradation are examined, the usefulness of programmes is judged and stakeholder participation is assessed. Case studies are presented from Egypt, Jordan, the Syrian Arab Republic and the United Arab Emirates and action-oriented recommendations on successful interventions are suggested. |
