Study on Gender Mainstreaming, Social Inclusion, Human Rights Processes and Outcomes of Access to Energy in Targeted Local Communities in Lebanon |
This report presents the findings of a detailed review and analysis of gender issues associated with energy services in Lebanon. It calls attention to the challenges and barriers rural women face in employment and entrepreneurship in energy sectors. It also highlights the potential for gender mainstreaming and identifies opportunities to support the local private sector, and to promote and expand the use of small-scale renewable energy technologies, while emphasizing the environmental and climate benefits associated with them. |

Impact of ICT on Community Development in ESCWA Member Countries |
Measuring the multifaceted information society is a very complex task. In the past, measurement approaches were confined to simply aggregating a variety of data on selected information and communications technology (ICT) indicators, adjusting the weight of some factors, and applying statistical tools. Those approaches, however, lacked theory and validation. While measuring the ever-changing ICT landscape might seem to be enough, this study emphasizes that societies are not exclusively driven by technology. |

Assessing the Impact of Climate Change on Water Resources and Socio-Economic Vulnerability in the Arab Region: A Methodological Framework for Pursuing an Integrated Assessment |
The methodological framework presented in this guidance document outlines the integrated assessment approach being implemented in support of the Regional Initiative for the Assessment of the Impact of Climate Change on Water Resources and Socio-Economic Vulnerability in the Arab Region. The approach combines climate change impact assessment and vulnerability assessment tools into a five step integrated assessment methodology that is based on global climate modelling, regional climate modelling, hydrological modelling, vulnerability analysis and integrated mapping tools. |

Assessing the economic implication of energy reform in the Arab countries : the case of Tunisia |
This study results show that reducing energy subsidy generates a fiscal space for the Tunisian economy. In the first bunch of simulations we supposed that this ‘saved’ amounts are totally directed to the reduction of fiscal deficit. This policy enhances the fiscal sustainability and reduces indebtment but have a negative impact on growth and job creation. The microsimulation approach shows that, after considering all taxes and direct cash transfers and indirect subsidies, the rate of poverty decreases from disposable income to consumable income. |
