Beirut, 16 May, 2012 (ESCWA Communications and Information Unit)- A group of Political Studies students from the University of Helsinki visited ESCWA today and explored its objectives and programmes. The students were briefed by Ms. Ahed Sboul, Chief, Conference Services Section on the opportunities provided by the Regional Commission and the challenges it is facing, especially following the drastic change that has occurred in the region since January 2011.

E-commerce, one of the main pillars of the digital economy, was the focus of a recent conference in Salalah, Oman, where the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) presented its work on economic dimensions of e-consumer data in e-commerce, including crucial issues the Arab region needs to consider as it grows its digital tools.  

Beirut, 10 February 2017 (Communication and Information Unit) -- Within the framework of its role in achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is taking part in the specialised Arab organisations meeting to support the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, held by the League of Arab States (LAS) at its Cairo headquarters on 13-14 February 2017.

The Amman based ESCWA Technology Centre participated in organizing the “Arab Conference for Creativity, Innovation and Competitiveness,” held by the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization (AIDMO) and the Central Metallurgical Research and Development Institute (CMRDI) on 24 and 25 May 2016 in Cairo. ESCWA Technology Centre’s National Officer Nael AlMulki delivered a keynote address in the opening of the Conference and participated as rapporteur in the third working session.
