Monday, 16 January 2012 (United Nation Information Service) – Participants in ESCWA’s high-level meeting on “Reform and Transitions to Democracy” in Beirut have tackled issues related to challenges facing Arab countries as a result of regional awakening. They highlighted the danger of sacrificing civil and human rights in the name of security and regional stability and emphasized the significance of civic values as the only means to confront communal divisions and the obstruction of transitions to democracy.

Beirut, 10 June 2019 (ESCWA)--An estimated nine out of ten people worldwide are exposed to air pollutants and polluted air kills some 7 million people each year, causes long term health problems, and reduces children’s cognitive development.
 
On 7 June, ESCWA marked World Environment Day focused this year on “beating air pollution” with the participation of six Lebanese Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) that showcased possibilities to mitigate this global dilemma.
 

ESCWA Regional Advisor for Environment and Water Ralf Klingbeil said today that Tunisia and Palestine will benefit from the exchange of information on their national approaches to environmental management through the activities, which ESCWA has planned at the Tunisian Ministry of Environment from 22 to 26 April 2013. Speaking to the ESCWA Communication and Information Unit (ECIU) of this mission, Klingbeil noted, “We expect to enhance direct cooperation between both countries in a number of fields.
