ESCWA Executive Secretary Arrives in Beirut |
United Nations Under-Secretary-General and ESCWA Executive Secretary Mohamed Ali Alhakim arrived this evening in Beirut to assume his responsibilities. He was received at the Rafik Hariri International Airport by Iraqi Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Al Ameri, ESCWA Deputy Executive Secretary Khawla Mattar, ESCWA Secretary Karim Khalil and a number of officials in the Commission. Before his appointment, Alhakim was the Permanent Representative and Ambassador of Iraq to the United Nations in New York since May 2013. |

An Expert Group Meeting on “Development Under Crisis Conditions” opened yesterday that is being hosted by UNESCWA in cooperation with the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Institute at the UN House, Beirut. The meeting, which is taking place from 27 to 28 June 2006, is enhancing development efforts in this often unstable region by bringing together expertise and stakeholders to address the causes and effects of conflict in the region. |

Technical Cooperation between ESCWA and Sudan |
Acting Executive Secretary of ESCWA Khawla Mattar signed on 23 April 2017 on behalf of ESCWA a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sudanese Minister of Trade Salah Mohamed Al-Hassan on behalf of the Ministry in order to provide a framework for inter-institutional dialogue and cooperation on matters of common interest in the fields of sustainable development until the end of 2019. The ceremony was attended by Sudanese Minister of Communication and Information Technology Tahani Abdallah Attia. |
