The Expert Group Meeting (EGM) held by ESCWA on the innovative approaches for promoting women’s political participation in the region gathered leading experts in political sciences and gender issues representing a number of universities, institutes, national committees and international institutions in addition to a number of UN organizations and specialized agencies.
21 April 2017	Measuring Food Security in Arab Region	The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) held its first consultative meeting on “Food Security Assessment and Monitoring in the Arab Region” on 11 and 12 April 2017 at the UN House in Beirut.
11 December 2014	ESCWA and the International Renewable Energy Conference	Investment in alternative energy offers a range of benefits, not only for energy security or environmental considerations but also for the socio-economic gains they can generate. Renewable energy global demand continues to rise, contributing an estimated 19% of global final energy consumption in 2011. Renewables constituted more than 26% of global generating capacity and contributed an estimated 21.7% of global electricity, while creating an estimated 5.7 million jobs for people working directly or indirectly in the renewable energy sector in 2012.
11 December 2014	ESCWA Discusses Financial Crisis, Launches 35th Anniversary	The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) will hold the 3rd Meeting of its Technical Committee in Beirut on 21 July to discuss the financial crisis, food safety, climate change and some internal issues of the Commission. The meeting's opening at the UN House will also witness the official launching of the 35th Anniversary of ESCWA.
11 December 2014	Meeting with representatives of Lebanese ‎Chambers of Commerce Industry and Agriculture and German Technical Cooperation ‎Agency	The acting executive secretary Mr. Atif Kubursi held on Thursday July 19 a meeting with three representatives of Lebanese Chambers of Commerce Industry and Agriculture (LCCIA): Mr. Ghazi Koraytem, President of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Beirut and Mount Lebanon; Mr. Abdallah Ghandour, President of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Tripoli and North Lebanon, and Mr. Mohamaad Zaatari, President of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture in Sidon and South Lebanon to discuss future potential cooperation.
11 July 2016	ESCWA and IRU Sign MoU on Transport and Trade Facilitation	On 28 June 2016, ESCWA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in transport and trade-related issues in the Arab region with the International Road Union (IRU). Director of ESCWA Economic Development and Integration Division Mohamed El Hacene represented the Commission in the ceremony, while IRU Secretary General Umberto de Pretto signed on behalf of the Union.
11 December 2014	Launching of E-Caravan Project for South Lebanon	UNESCWA Executive Secretary Mervat Tallawy considered the mobile computer school project a join effort between the United Nations agencies in Lebanon, foreign and Arab embassies, civil society organizations, and the banking and private sectors. Tallawy was speaking at a press conference held today to launch the E-Caravan project for South Lebanon implemented by UNESCWA in cooperation with “Fondation Saradar”. The launching took place under the auspices of Lebanese Minister of Communication Marwan Hamadeh represented by the ministry’s Director-General Naji Andraos.
10 December 2019	Social Expenditure Monitor: ESCWA tool to improve budgeting towards increased social justice	Beirut, 6 December 2019 (ESCWA)--ESCWA today discussed how public expenditures can be better targeted to achieve social development priorities, using the recently launched Social Expenditure Monitor (SEM) that seeks to align thinking on social policy interventions with national budgets and macroeconomic policy. The workshop held at the UN House in Beirut gathered experts from the region to review a discussion paper on SEM and invite Arab States that have not yet done so to adopt it.
6 September 2018	Spotlight on economic dimensions of e-commerce as ESCWA participates in conference in Oman	E-commerce, one of the main pillars of the digital economy, was the focus of a recent conference in Salalah, Oman, where the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) presented its work on economic dimensions of e-consumer data in e-commerce, including crucial issues the Arab region needs to consider as it grows its digital tools.
11 December 2014	ESCWA Sets 2014-2015 Strategic Framework	Against the backdrop of development challenges facing Arab countries and the popular movements sweeping the region, ESCWA today opened an expert group meeting at the UN House in Beirut to discuss recent transformations in the Arab world and develop the Commission’s strategic framework for the 2014-2015 biennium.
