ESCWA Deliberates Millennium Development Goals in the Arab region |
ESCWA held an Expert Group Meeting on 19 and 20 July, to discuss the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in the Arab region, as part of a report to be published on the subject later this year. The meeting discussed regional priorities, different forms of partnerships for development through trade and finance integration, cooperation on water management, labour migration and food security issues. |

Beirut, 16 March 2017 (Communication and Information Unit) – The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) Deputy Executive Secretary for Programme Support Khawla Mattar signed today on behalf of ESCWA a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Moroccan Minister of General Affairs and Governance Mohamad Al-Wafa on behalf of the Ministry in order to provide a framework for inter-institutional dialogue and cooperation on matters of common interest in the fields of sustainable development over the period 2017-2019. |

UNESCWA Addresses Arab Decision Makers on the Economy of Globalization and Regional Integration |
The fourth issue of the UNESCWA “Annual Review of Developments in Globalization and Regional Integration in the Countries of the UNESCWA Region, 2005” is due to be launched on Wednesday 1 March 2006, at 11am in the UN-House, Beirut. This flagship publication analyses the degree to which the Arab economy is integrated into the world economy and the extent of economic integration between Arab countries. It targets decision makers in UNESCWA member and other Arab countries, in addition to researchers, academics and others interested in the economy of globalization and regional integration. |

Shared Water Resources in the Arab Region: Regional launch of the ESCWA-BGR Inventory |
On the sidelines of the UN Day celebrations (24 October), a panel discussion was organized for the regional launch of the Inventory of Shared Water Resources in Western Asia. In order to shed light on the precious natural resources and promote dialogue between countries sharing water resources, ESCWA and the German Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) have prepared the Inventory of Shared Water Resources in Western Asia. |

Libyan Conflict and its Impact on Egypt and Tunisia |
Following the Libyan parliamentary elections held in June 2014 and the inability of the Government to extend its authority beyond Tripoli, in addition to the political instability and intensified armed violence around the capital city of Tripoli and the second largest city of Bengazi, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) produced a note to examine the economic situation in Libya and review the main challenges the Libyan economy is facing. |
