On 25 October 2013, ESCWA and the Rafik Hariri Foundation joined hands in organizing "Water, Food and Energy Nexus Conference" at the United Nations House in Beirut. Speakers in the conference were Roula Majdalani, Director of the ESCWA Sustainable Development and Productivity Division (SDPD); Salwa Siniora Baassiri, Director-General of the Rafik Hariri Foundation; Nadim Khoury, Deputy Executive Secretary of ESCWA. The event’s keynote speaker was Dominic Waughray, Senior Director and Head of Environment and Sustainable Initiatives of the World Economic Forum.

Acting Executive Secretary of ESCWA Khawla Mattar signed on 23 April 2017 on behalf of ESCWA a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sudanese Minister of Trade Salah Mohamed Al-Hassan on behalf of the Ministry in order to provide a framework for inter-institutional dialogue and cooperation on matters of common interest in the fields of sustainable development until the end of 2019. The ceremony was attended by Sudanese Minister of Communication and Information Technology Tahani Abdallah Attia.
 

The second panel of the 28th ministerial session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) convened this afternoon to discuss the topic “Economic policies in support of social justice”, examining the connections between economics and social justice, and the impact of various economic and fiscal policies on social and economic development from an equity and justice perspective.

Beirut, 30 June 2010 (UN Information Service)-- The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is launching as of 1 July three electronic fora, as part of the portal called “Towards an inclusive Participatory Development in the ESCWA region”, to achieve social integration and promote the participation of civil society and media in social development.
