On 17 April 2014, the anniversary of the Syrian Independence day, the United Nations House in Beirut received 100 Syrian young men and women who were brought together by the "National Agenda for the Future of Syria" program ESCWA launched in 2012. Participants gathered to exchange views on the program and its aims, establishing thereby a communication mechanism that would ensure their participation in all stages of implementation of the said program.

On 20-22 June 2012, the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) took place in Rio de Janeiro, capturing global attention and participation. Some 12,000 government and civil society representatives attended the conference, including heads of State and ministers from more than 190 countries. At the conclusion of Rio+20, the outcome document “The Future We Want” was approved and more than 700 pledges of financial support (totaling US$513 billion) were made.

Under the auspices of President Ali Abdallah Saleh, and the theme of "Financing for Development in the ESCWA region", the 25th Session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, (UN-ESCWA), opened today at the level of senior officials at the Movenpick Hotel – Sana'a. The Ministerial segment is set to be inaugurated on Wednesday 28 May 2008.
