The Sudan Joins UN-ESCWA |
The Sudan has recently acceded to the membership of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN ESCWA). The Commission has thus come to include 14 member countries. The accession comes in response to the request of the Sudan and the recommendation of the UN-ESCWA 25th Ministerial Session held in Sana’a, Yemen on 26-29 May 2008. |

ESCWA Rewards Staff Members for Distinguished Work on Gender Equality and Women Empowerment |
United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of ESCWA Rima Khalaf headed a ceremony at the UN House in Beirut to present the ESCWA Award on Advancing Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women to four staff members of the commission. The event, which took place on Thursday 8 September 2016, marks the second time the award is granted by ESCWA. The commission has effectively adopted a holistic approach to mainstreaming gender perspectives in its plans, policies and programmes. |

The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is organizing an expert group meeting (EGM) on “The Implications of the Syrian Crisis on the Economies of Jordan and Lebanon” on Thursday, the 4th of July 2013 at its headquarters, Riad El Solh Square, Beirut. The meeting will be held with the participation of Jordanian Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Ibrahim Saif and Lebanese Minister of Economy and Trade Nicholas Nahas. |
