The Digital Arabic Content Competitions for 2013 Open the Doors for Digital Products in Arabic |
ESCWA launched the digital Arabic content (DAC) competitions for 2013 between June and September in each of Palestine, Yemen and Lebanon under the slogan “Thinking digital? Let’s innovate in Arabic”. The competitions aimed at selecting the best and most innovative ideas in the field of DAC. They were launched in cooperation with the Palestine Information and Communication Technology Incubator (PICTI) in Palestine, the Science and Technology Centre at the University of Aden in Yemen, and Berytech in Lebanon. |

Democratic Governance in Iraq on the Agenda of ESCWA |
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) will hold a workshop on 'Capacity-Building for Partnership in Democratic governance in Iraq' in partnership with the Iraqi Business Council (IBC) and in cooperation with the League of Arab States (LAS) and the Arab Gulf Fund for Development (AGFUND) from 23 to 25 January 2015, in the Grand Millennium Hotel, Amman. The opening of the workshop will be attended by Ambassador of Iraq to Jordan Jawad Hadi Abbas. |

The Sudan Joins UN-ESCWA |
The Sudan has recently acceded to the membership of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN ESCWA). The Commission has thus come to include 14 member countries. The accession comes in response to the request of the Sudan and the recommendation of the UN-ESCWA 25th Ministerial Session held in Sana’a, Yemen on 26-29 May 2008. |

The Deputy Director of the ESCWA Centre for Women, Ms. Mehrinaz El-Awady, today said that the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development may form a turning point in development policies in the world, underlining a shift in the philosophy of development from specific development policies linked to narrow thematic frameworks to more inclusive policies that require action in different fields. |

Within the framework of her visit to the Kingdom of Morocco to participate in the Second High-Level Meeting on Transition to Democracy, which was organized by ESCWA in the City of Rabat on 5-6 February 2013, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and ESCWA Executive Secretary Rima Khalaf met with Moroccan Minister Delegate for Public Affairs and Governance Mohammad Boulif.
