Beirut, 19 October 2011 (United Nations Information Centre) – UN Information Centre in Beirut (UNIC-Beirut) held a press conference today at the UN House to launch the Information Economy Report (IER) 2011. The report, entitled “IER 2011: Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) as an Enabler for Private Sector Development,” is issued by the Geneva-based UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

ESCWA Chief Economist and Director of the Economic Development and Globalization Division (EDGD) Abdallah Al Dardari, said today that modest growth prospects of the Asia-Pacific economies will impact Arab economies through inter-regional economic and social linkages, which became crucial for the Arab region’s development. He added that economic growth of the Arab region will taper off in 2013, as no strong demand growth for natural resources will be seen in the near future.

ESCWA recently issued a publication entitled “Analysis of Energy Policy Trends in the Arab Region” (click here to access the publication and/or download it). This publication attempts to provide an analysis of the past national policy trends that shaped the evolution of the domestic energy situation in the Arab region, as well as the present policies and institutions that are in place.

Beirut, 15 March 2017 (Communication and Information Unit) – As part of its outreach activities, the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) today welcomed 25 students from Ali Bin Abi Taleb - Al Maqassed School for an inside look into the work of the regional commission, especially related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
