Under the banner of “Social Justice in the Policies of Arab States”, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) will hold its 28th Session from 15 to 18 September 2014 in the Regency Hotel, Tunis. The Session will highlight the importance of Arab cooperation in establishing new development models to meet growing demands for social justice and equality.

Beirut, 02 October 2018 (Communication and Information Unit) – Improving the quality of data on persons with disabilities was the focus of a recent meeting in Cairo, Egypt, attended by thirteen countries of the Arab region (Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Sudan, Tunisia and Yemen) as well as international experts and representatives of UN agencies, civil society and Disabled People’s Organizations.
 

Development is a human right that everyone should benefit from, especially the most marginalized and vulnerable groups in the Arab region. This includes people living under occupation and conflict, refugees, internally displaced people, and residents of rural and poor areas. Such were the recommendations of the “Preparatory Meeting for the 3rd Arab Forum on Sustainable Development (AFSD-3) and the 2nd United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-2),” hosted by the United Nations House in Beirut on 14 April 2016.

Beirut-Amman, 12 December 2019 (ESCWA)--A recent ESCWA study found that for every $1 gained from remittances, the Arab region lost $2 between 2011 & 2018 and this is a major gap in the efforts to attain financial sustainability.
