11 December 2014	ESCWA Holds Conference on Green Industries	Beirut, 28 September 2011 (UN Information Service) — ESCWA today opened a conference on “The Role of Green Industries in Promoting Socio-Economic Development in the Arab Countries” at the UN House in Beirut. The conference is held under the patronage of Lebanese Minister of Industry Freije Sabounjian, and is organized in cooperation with the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization (AIDMO).
29 December 2020	ESCWA: The Arab region faces two scenarios for 2021	Beirut, 29 December 2020--The Arab region faces two economic scenarios for 2021: an optimistic one projecting a growth rate of 3.5% and one that is less optimistic, limiting growth prospects to 2.8%. The actual path will hinge on the ability of Arab countries to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic, which has caused losses of about $140 billion for the region, resulting in an estimated -3% growth contraction in 2020.

The master of ceremony in the opening session will be the media figure Mounir el Hafi.

11 December 2014	Boosting Digital Arabic Content – new report examines challenges and opportunities	The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN-ESCWA) launched on June 13th 2014 a joint assessment study entitled "Digital Arabic Content". The launch was during the thematic workshop on "Digital Content for Inclusive Knowledge Society" that took place as part of the WSIS+10 High Level Event, held in Geneva. The report was launched amidst growing regional interest in digital content in general and digital Arabic content (DAC) in specific.
11 December 2014	Meeting Concludes With Recommendations for Future Development Efforts in Western Asia	UNESCWA concluded an Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on Development Under Crisis Conditions that was held at the UN House, Beirut, from 27 to 28 June 2006 in which experts from the United States, Europe and the Arab world discussed the causes and effects of conflict and political tensions in the region, documented best practices, and made recommendations for future development efforts in Western Asia.
11 December 2014	Executive Secretary Participates in Dialogue for Regional Commissions	With nine of its member countries accounting for some 56 and 30 per cent of oil and natural gas world supplies, the UN-ESCWA region is especially rich in these resources, said Executive Secretary Bader Omar AlDafa. At the same time, other member countries have little or no gas or oil reserves. Such disparities among and between countries of the region had kept average growth over the past two years at about 5.6 per cent.
1 April 2015	Regional Commission Marks International Women’s Day, Raises Voices of Arab Women	On the occasion of International Women’s Day, ESCWA, in cooperation with the Resource Center for Gender Equality (ABAAD), held a commemoration entitled “Voices of Arab Women,” at the UN House, Beirut, with the participation of Second Vice Chair of the National Commission for Lebanese Women Lama Tammam Salam, and Lebanese Minister of Displaced Persons Alice Chabtini.
