To mark World Water Day 2014, ESCWA cooperated with the Association of the Friends of Ibrahim Abdel Al, the Association of Lebanese Industrialists (ALI) and the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in holding a seminar entitled "The Water-Energy Nexus: Issues and Challenges", on 21 March, at the Order of the Press in Beirut.

Under the overall message of “Go Forward”, ESCWA has launched its annual report for the year 2012, in Arabic and English. The report reviews a year of achievements for the regional commission against the backdrop of continued transitions and socio-economic challenges in the Arab region. It focuses on the seven key substantive areas of the ESCWA mandate: sustainable development, social development, economic development, information and communications technology, statistics, advancement of women, and conflict mitigation and development.

UN-ESCWA Executive Secretary Bader Aldafa introduced yesterday, Monday 22 October, before the Second Committee of the General Assembly (Economic and Financial), the UN Secretary-General’s note transmitting the report on the “Economic and Social Repercussions of the Israeli Occupation on the Living Conditions of the Palestinian People in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including Jerusalem, and of the Arab Population in the Occupied Syrian Golan”. The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is currently leading efforts to strengthen national capacities in the Arab region on developing green production sectors. On 29-30 September, ESCWA, in partnership with the Economic Commission for Africa’s Sub-regional Office for North Africa (ECA/SRO-NA) and the Moroccan Cleaner Production Center (CMPP), organizes a regional workshop at the Golden Tulip Farah Casablanca Hotel, Morocco, entitled “Innovative Technologies for Waste Management in the Arab Region-Paving the Way for the Transition to a Green Economy.”
