United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of ESCWA Rima Khalaf headed a ceremony at the UN House in Beirut to present the ESCWA Award on Advancing Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women to four staff members of the commission. The event, which took place on Thursday 8 September 2016, marks the second time the award is granted by ESCWA. The commission has effectively adopted a holistic approach to mainstreaming gender perspectives in its plans, policies and programmes.

 ESCWA co-organized a session on Innovation Policies for Socio-Economic Sustainable Development as part of the Fourth Session of the Arab Forum for Scientific Research and Sustainable Development, held under the auspices of Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ashraf al Shihi, on 16-18 December 2016.
 
The ESCWA session brought to light the importance of innovation policies for economic growth and for the achievement of inclusive sustainable development.

Beirut, 27 September 2011 (UN Information Service) — ESCWA today held a workshop on “Voluntary Sustainability Standards (VSS) to promote sustainable agricultural production, food quality and safety, environmental protection and trade in the Arab Region,” at the UN House in Beirut. The workshop was organized in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and under the patronage of the Lebanese Minister of Agriculture Hussein Al Hajj Hassan.

The “High-Level Meeting on Beyond Populism: Economic Challenges and Opportunities in Democratic Transitions,” opened today in the Moroccan capital Rabat, as organized by ESCWA in cooperation with the other regional commissions of the United Nations on 5-6 February 2013. The Meeting was held in the presence of Minister of State Abdallah Baha Representing King Muhammad VI and Minister Delegate Attached to the Prime Minister for General Affairs and Good Governance Mohamed Najib Boulif.
