Economic Trends in the ESCWA Region 2011- 2012 |
During a press briefing to highlight the main findings of the “Survey of Economic and Social Development in the ESCWA Region 2011-2012,” held this morning at the U.N. House in Beirut, Mr. Abdullah Al-Dardari, Director of Economic Development and Globalization Division (EDGD) said that all-time high oil revenue amidst the Arab Spring resulted in growth polarization between major oil exporters and the rest of the ESCWA region. |

ESCWA Opens Reform and Transition to Democracy Meeting |
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called on those who believe in a future of freedom and dignity to come together and help people of the region and their leaders to write the next chapters. He said that from the very beginning of these revolutions, from Tunisia through Egypt and beyond, he has called on leaders to listen to their people, a call that some heeded and benefitted while others did not, and today are facing the storm. "I say again to President Assad of Syria: Stop the violence. Stop killing your own people. The path of repression is a dead end," he demanded. |

Workshop of the Academy of ICT Essentials for Government Leaders in the ESCWA Region |
ESCWA is organizing on 8-12 June 2015 the Regional Training-of-Trainers (TOT) workshop within the implementation of the Academy of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Essentials for Government Leaders in the ESCWA Region (AIGLE) at the UN House in Beirut. Participants in the workshop will include high-level experts who have either prepared or reviewed the AIGLE four training modules, in addition to experts nominated by the participating institutions as well as the focal points from the participating Arab countries. |
