ESCWA Deputy Executive Secretary Khawla Mattar received the UN Secretary-General Award for Courage, in a ceremony held 25 October 2016 in New York, on the occasion of the United Nations Staff ­ Day.
 
The United Nations Secretary-General Awards recognize the outstanding work of Secretariat staff­ members who contribute above and beyond the call of duty and advance innovative projects. Ms Mattar received the award for courage, honoring her work in accomplishing her tasks and upholding the values of the United Nations in a physically dangerous environment.
 

Upon the invitation of the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization (AIDMO) and co-organization of ESCWA and the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), a workshop was held on “Linking Research Institutes with Industry in Arab States” on 5 October 2016 in Amman.
 

Director of ESCWA Economic Development and Integration Division Mohamed el Moctar Mohamed el Hacene is holding a press briefing at 11:00 AM on  Thursday 10 November 2016 at the UN House, Riad El Solh square, where he will present key analytical observations of the “Survey of Economic and Social Developments in the Arab Region 2015-2016,” an annual ESCWA publication. 

 Government representatives and officials from the National Women Machineries (NWMs) in the Member States of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) today adopted a unified Arab framework to measure accountability and progress towards achieving gender equality in public institutions. The framework will be tested later at the levels of both the NWMs and governmental institutions.
