6 November 2017	Islamic Finance in National Accounts	33 experts from 17 Arab, African and Asian countries discussed various issues related to Islamic Finance and exchanged their expertise in this field in a meeting that was held by ESCWA in coordination with the United Nations Statistics Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNSD) at the UN House in Beirut from 24 to 26 October 2017. 8 experts representing international organizations also took part in the meeting.
11 December 2014	UN Deputy Secretary-General Visits Lebanon	UN Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson visits Beirut to participate in the 17th meeting of the UN Regional Coordination Mechanism (RCM) hosted by ESCWA on 10 December 2012 at the UN House-Beirut. During his visit, Eliasson is scheduled to meet with the Lebanese Head of State, House Speaker and Prime Minister, alongside a number of Lebanese personalities. The Deputy Secretary-General will also pay a visit to the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), and to the Caritas Centre in Ghazieh accredited by the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to register Syrian refugees.
11 December 2014	Nepalese Messenger of Peace Pushkar Shah Visits UN-ESCWA, Meets with Executive Secretary	UN-ESCWA Executive Secretary, Mr. Bader Omar Al Dafa, received today Mr. Pushkar Shah, the Nepalese teacher who is touring the world on a bicycle to spread the message of peace. Shah presented to Al Dafa the motives behind the journey he initiated in 1998, and which ends next year, once he finishes visiting 150 countries. During his visit to every country, Shah tours different schools, clubs, local communities and United Nations headquarters to speak about peace, respect for other religions and cultures, living in harmony, respect for human rights and democratic values.
4 August 2017	Executive Secretary of ESCWA Meets Lebanon’s Minister of State for Administrative Reform	United Nations Under-Secretary-General and ESCWA Executive Secretary Mohamed Ali Al-Hakim visited Friday 4 August 2017 Lebanese Minister of State for Administrative Reform Inaya Ezzeddine, heading a delegation comprising Director of Emerging and Conflict Related Issues (ECRI) at ESCWA Tarek Alami, ESCWA Regional Adviser for Emerging and Conflict Related Issues Karam Karam, and ESCWA Regional Advisor for Sustainable Development Adib Nehme.

11 March 2019	ESCWA Chief visits former Prime Minister	Beirut, 8 March 2019 (ESCWA)--United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) Executive Secretary Rola Dashti today called on Lebanese former Prime Minister Fouad Siniora. The two officials discussed the socioeconomic situation in Lebanon and the region, and agreed on the important role of ESCWA in devising effective development policies for member countries.
21 June 2018	Executive Secretary invites Lebanese President to open 30th Ministerial Session	ESCWA Executive Secretary Mohamed Ali Alhakim invited Lebanese President Michel Aoun to inaugurate the 30th Ministerial Session of ESCWA that will be held in Beirut on 27 and 28 June 2018. During his visit to the Presidential Palace in Baabda on 8 June, Mr. Alhakim discussed with President Aoun the work of ESCWA and congratulated him on successful parliamentary elections under his leadership.
11 December 2014	HRH Prince Al Hassan Bin Talal Visits ESCWA Technology Centre	His Royal Highness Prince Al Hassan Bin Talal paid a visit to the Amman-based ESCWA Technology Centre (ETC) on 18 June 2013 . Prince Al Hassan was briefed by ETC’s Executive Director Fouad Mrad on the objectives of the Centre, which looks to strengthen capacities in establishing national and administrative systems; develop, transfer, adapt, implement, and define the appropriate technologies to the region; and improve the legal and trade frameworks of technology transfer. HRH was accompanied during his visit by his daughter HRH Princess Soumaya who presides over ETC’s board of governors.
7 August 2017	Executive Secretary visits former President Sleiman	Beirut, 7 August 2017 (Communication and Information Unit) -- United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of ESCWA Mohamed Ali Al-Hakim visited today President Michel Sleiman in his Yarze residence. Both sides discussed the Commission’s activities in Lebanon and the region. They also tackled economic and social issues in addition to the National Agenda for the Future of Syria program initiated by ESCWA over three years ago. ***** For more information:
17 March 2017	ESCWA Executive Secretary Holds Press Conference this Evening	UN Undersecretary-General and ESCWA Executive Secretary Rima Khalaf holds a press conference at 5:00 PM today Friday 17 March 2017 at the Lebanese Press Syndicate, Raouche, Beirut. The press conference is related to the recently-issued report “Israeli Practices towards the Palestinian People and the Question of Apartheid.” The ESCWA Information and Communication Unit (ECIU) invites media institutions and representatives to cover the press conference.
