ESCWA Marks Arab Water Day |
ESCWA held a press conference on Tuesday 2 March to officially mark Arab Water Day for the first time this year under the theme "For Joint Arab Water Security".
The conference, held under the auspices of Lebanese Minister of Energy and Water Jibran Bassil, was presented by Miss Lebanon 2009 Martine Andraos who reiterated that she adopted the issues of sustainable water resources as a priority issues on her work program.

Amman to Host the Launching of the National Campaign On Secure Tenure and Good Urban Governance |
In cooperation with the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDC) in Jordan, UN-HABITAT-Amman, the Arab Towns Organization (ATO), and Habitat International Coalition (HIC), the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN-ESCWA) is launching “The National Campaign on Secure Tenure and Good Urban Governance” through a workshop to be held in Al Hussein Cultural Center, Amman, Jordan, on 20-21 October 2007. |

United Nations Under-Secretary-General and ESCWA Executive Secretary Mohamed Ali Alhakim paid an official visit to Egypt on 22-24 August 2017 on top of a delegation comprising his Deputy for Program Support Khawla Mattar, ESCWA Secretary of the Commission Karim Khalil, Chief of Economic Governance and Planning Ahmed Kamaly and Team Assistant Zalfa Hobballah. |

Training in Sudan on Program Cycle Management and Project Proposal Writing |
Under the auspices of Sudanese Trade Minister Osman Omer Al-Sharif, and in cooperation with the Ministry, ESCWA delivered a 5-day intensive training workshop on Program Cycle Management and Project Proposal Writing, from 11 to 15 May 2014, in Khartoum. The training was delivered by ESCWA Regional Advisor on Social Policy Khaled Ayesh, and First Social Affairs Officer Naela Haddad. The ESCWA team also conducted the closing graduation ceremony for 31 officials from various Sudanese Ministries, in the presence of State Minister for Foreign Trade Jehad Hamzeh. |

Participation of Women in Public Life Main Focus of Tallawy Trip to UK |
UNESCWA Executive Secretary Mervat Tallawy is slated to be the keynote speaker at a conference on the Political Participation of Muslim Women in the UK and Abroad. The two-day event is co-hosted by the All-Party Parliamentary Human Rights Group at the British Houses of Parliament and the Barrow Cadbury Trust at the House of Commons on 21 and 22 March 2006. |

Towards a National Legislative Framework to Protect Women and Girls against All Forms of Violence |
On 17and18 June 2014, the National Council for Women (NCW) in Egypt hosted ESCWA’s Regional Advisor for Women’s Issues Wafa Al Dika Hamze, First Social Affairs Officer at the ESCWA Centre for Women (ECW) Lana Baydas, and Egyptian Legal Advisor Ahmad El Naggar in an advisory mission, which included a workshop entitled “Towards a National Legislative Framework to Protect Women and Girls against All Forms of Violence” organized by the NCW and the Egyptian Ministry of Justice in cooperation with ESCWA, UN-Women regional Bureau for Arab States and the Cairo based United Nations Office for Drugs |

ESCWA takes part in Beirut Energy Forum and Discusses the Role of Renewable Energy |
ESCWA is organizing a session titled “The Role of Renewable Energy in Socio – Economic Development in the Arab Region” on 17 Sept. 2014, from 15:30 to 17:30, at Le Royal Hotel, Dbayeh within the activities of the 5th Beirut Energy Forum. The session will be moderated by Moncef Ben Abdallah, Senior Energy Expert, former Tunisian Industry and Energy Minister. The session will focus on the impact of Renewable Energy (RE) and Energy Efficiency (EE) deployment and the role of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in this respect. |
