16th Meeting of Industrial Research Centres’ Coordination Committee in Arab States |
ESCWA Technology Centre (ETC) hosted the sixteenth meeting of the “Industrial Research Centres’ Coordination Committee in Arab States” simultaneously with ESCWA Technical Committee’s meeting, in cooperation with the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organisation (AIDMO). The meeting aimed to overcome the hurdles facing technology transfer and development, and to raise awareness on the significance of industrial research in order to achieve an advanced Arab industry. |

ESCWA Staff Council organized a ping-pong tournament in August, under the auspices of Executive Secretary Rima Khalaf. Fawzat Salloum of the Security and Safety Section and Naela Haddad of the Social Development Division won the final matches on the categories of men and women, respectively, and received their trophies from the Executive Secretary on 30 August 2012. |

The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development’s Partnership in Statistics for Development in the 21st Century Program (PARIS21) and the African Development Bank have established a multi-organization team coordinated by PARIS21 upon the request of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS). |

Haddad and Tallawy to launch a Pioneering Study by UN-ESCWA |
Lebanese Minister of Economy and Trade Sami Haddad and Executive Secretary Mervat Tallawy will hold a press conference to launch the annual study prepared by UN-ESCWA entitled “Annual Review of Developments in Globalization and Regional Integration in the Arab Countries”. The press conference will be held at 10 am on Friday 18 May 2007 at the Safir Heliopolitan Hotel in Beirut. |

ESCWA Marks Arab Water Day |
ESCWA held a press conference on Tuesday 2 March to officially mark Arab Water Day for the first time this year under the theme "For Joint Arab Water Security".
The conference, held under the auspices of Lebanese Minister of Energy and Water Jibran Bassil, was presented by Miss Lebanon 2009 Martine Andraos who reiterated that she adopted the issues of sustainable water resources as a priority issues on her work program.

Oman Hosts UNESCWA Regional Workshop on Trade and Environment Capacity Building |
Under the auspices of H.E. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Salem Bin Amer Al-Rawas, Omani Minister of Regional Municipalities, Environment and Water Resources, UNESCWA is organizing a “Regional Workshop on Trade and Environment Capacity Building” in cooperation with the League of Arab States (LAS) and the United Nations Environment Program / Regional Office for Western Asia (UNEP/ROWA). The three-day workshop in Muscat, Oman, is scheduled to begin on 25 March 2006 at the Faculty Club Hall in Sultan Qaboos University. |

UN Deputy Secretary-General Starts Lebanon Visit |
Beirut, 23 November 2011 (UN Information Service) — UN Deputy Secretary-General Asha-Rose Migiro arrived in Beirut this morning on a four-day visit, during which she will head the 16th meeting of the UN’s Regional Coordination Mechanism (RCM) and meet leaders of the country as well as chiefs and staff of UN agencies in Lebanon. During her stay, Migiro is set to visit Lebanese President Michel Sleiman, Speaker of the Parliament Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Najib Mikati. |
