Partnership Building Forum for Arab Domains on the Internet |
ESCWA and the League of Arab States (LAS) are organizing a Partnership Building Forum for the Implementation of the Arab Top Level Domains (TLD) “.arab” & “.عرب”, on 5 and 6 July 2011 at the Fairmont Heliopolis and Towers Hotel in Cairo, Egypt. This forum is organized in partnership with the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and hosted by the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) in Egypt. |

ESCWA Staff Commemorate Late Colleague |
On 8 February 2013, ESCWA staff members had a grim date with the memorial ceremony for one of their finest colleagues, the Safety and Security Section’s Seargant Haytham Tohmeh, who laid down the arms in his battle with illness before January closed its curtains. Staff members of the Commission came together for a memorial service to remember their colleague as he was, a dedicated professional who embodied the ideals of the international organization since 1 August 2004, the day he officially became a United Nations employee. |

Participation of Women in Public Life Main Focus of Tallawy Trip to UK |
UNESCWA Executive Secretary Mervat Tallawy is slated to be the keynote speaker at a conference on the Political Participation of Muslim Women in the UK and Abroad. The two-day event is co-hosted by the All-Party Parliamentary Human Rights Group at the British Houses of Parliament and the Barrow Cadbury Trust at the House of Commons on 21 and 22 March 2006. |

Water, Energy and Food Security in the Region: A Nexus Approach |
The American University of Beirut-affiliated Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs held a seminar on "The Nexus Approach: The Road to Water, Energy and Food Security in the Arab World" on 22 January 2014. ESCWA was represented by Regional Advisor for Environment and Water issues, Ralf Klingbeil, who delivered a presentation on "Food Security, Water Security, Improved Food Value Chains for Sustainable Socio-economic Development". |

ESCWA contributes to SHARAKA Conference |
Upon invitation from the Gulf Studies Program at the College of Arts and Science, Qatar University, ESCWA Regional Advisor on Environment and Water, Ralf Klingbeil, participated in the conference “EU-GCC Regional Security Cooperation - Lessons Learned and Future Challenges” organised by the EU-funded SHARAKA project for “Enhancing Understanding and Cooperation in EU-GCC Relations” between 28 and 29 October 2013 in Doha, Qatar. The conference addressed a number of security-related issues relevant to EU-GCC relations including energy and food security. |

UN-ESCWA Advisory Committee convened its first meeting for 2009 on Thursday 19 March at the UN-House, Riad El-Solh Square. Chiefs of diplomatic missions of the 14-member Regional Commission participated in the meeting, which was presided by UN-ESCWA Executive Secretary Bader Omar AlDafa. |

UN Under-Secretary-General and ESCWA Executive Secretary Rima Khalaf will be delivering the statement of the United Nations Secretary-General, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, in the First Annual Asian Cooperation Dialogue Summit to be held in the city of Kuwait on 15-17 October 2012. The Summit will convene 31 Heads of State and Government to discuss a wide range of issues in the political, economic, social, scientific and public information fields. |
