ESCWA Meeting Calls for Efforts to Establish Arab Information Society |
ESCWA opened yesterday its regional meeting on the Follow-up to the Outcome of the World Summit on the Information Society in Damascus, with keynote speakers stressing the importance of building and strengthening the information society in the Arab region, to further push the development process. "Establishing the information society in our region requires the combination of efforts by the governments and the private sector, including regional training and research organizations", ESCWA Executive Secretary Bader AlDafa said. |

Saudi Ambassador Visits ESCWA |
ESCWA Executive Secretary Bader AlDafa today received Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Awwad Osseiri, who is visiting the Regional Commission's quarters.
Both parties discussed ESCWA activities and common projects between the Commission and Saudi Arabia. AlDafa had paid an official visit to KSA on 23-26 March 2009 to meet with officials and discuss means of common cooperation. |

European University Students Visit ESCWA |
A group of students visiting Lebanon from various universities in Europe on 6 August called on ESCWA where they were briefed about the UN Regional Commission and welcomed by several of its senior officials. The students' tour began with a stop at ESCWA’s Library, where they received an overview about its books, publications and documents. The European students also had a chance to see ESCWA's reproduction house where most of the Commission’s publications are produced. |
