11 December 2014	UN Launches Report on Combating Poverty and Inequality	Beirut, 11 November 2010 (UN Information Service) — ESCWA today launched at the UN House in Beirut a global report on “Combating Poverty and Inequality: Structural Change, Social Policy and Politics,” by the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD). Presentations were delivered during the launch by UNRISD Executive Director Sarah Cook and Acting Director of ESCWA Economic Development and Globalization Division Tarek Alami.

11 December 2014	Investment in the ICT Sector In Cairo-Hosted ESCWA Meeting	ESCWA is holding a three-day Workshop on "Investment in the Information and Communication Technology Sector," from 5 to 7 May 2009 in Cairo. The meeting is organized in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT), and will be held at MCIT premises, Smart Village B1, Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road, Giza, Cairo, Egypt.
30 May 2017	Executive Secretary Discusses with Former Prime Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina Combating Violent Extremism	“Violent extremism walks in when shared society withdraws,” said former Prime Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina and member of “Club de Madrid” Zlatko Lagumdzija, who paid a visit to the UN House in Beirut on 29 May 2017, and met with Under-Secretary-General and ESCWA Executive Secretary Mohamed Ali Alhakim. The meeting was attended by ESCWA Deputy Executive Khawla Mattar and Director of ESCWA Emerging and Conflict-related Issues Division Tarek Alami as well as “Club de Madrid” Senior Program Officer Maram Anbar.

11 December 2014	ESCWA National Conference on Decentralization and Local Governance in Iraq	ESCWA convened a national conference on decentralization and local governance in Iraq entitled "Instigating an Evidence-based and Home-Grown National Strategy for the Promotion of Decentralization and Local Governance in Iraq". The conference, which was held in Erbil on 14-15 June 2011, gathered more than 120 participants from federal, regional and local governments, alongside representatives of Iraqi parliament, civil society and private sector.
11 December 2014	Strengthening Private Sector Resilience under Conflict on UN-ESCWA Agenda Tomorrow	Strengthening private sector resilience is on the UN-ESCWA agenda in an expert group meeting to be held tomorrow Tuesday a the Commission’s quarters, Riad el Solh. The meeting is to continue until Wednesday 12 November.
11 December 2014	Arab Food Security Conference Issues Range of Recommendations	Participants in an international conference on Arab food security today concluded two days of meetings with a call to highlight the need to focus on supporting job-creating growth for the poor in countries with household-level food insecurity, and on encouraging exports to finance food imports and agriculture in countries with macro-level food insecurity.
12 November 2014	Social Water Studies in MENA Region	ESCWA Regional Advisor on Environment and Water Ralf Klingbeil participated in the conference on “Social Water Studies in the MENA Region” on September 27th and 28th 2014 at the German Jordanian University (GJU) in Madaba, Jordan. ESCWA contributed to the conference through a panel discussion, a presentation, as well as supporting participating scientists from Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia.
