Beirut, 23 April 2017 (Communication and Information Unit) – Two weeks ahead of parliamentary elections in Lebanon, a panel discussion at the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) today gathered activists and experts in the field of political participation to discuss ways of ensuring electoral justice for women and youth in the Arab region.
 

Beirut, 24 April 2018 (Communication and Information Unit)--- On Tuesday, the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) welcomed a record number of participants at its headquarters in Beirut for its annual Arab Forum for Sustainable Development (AFSD), this year focused on “Natural Resources, Future Generations, and the Common Good”.
 

Speaking at a press conference to launch a pioneering study on the “Status of Arab Women 2005: History of Women Movements in the Arab World” today, UNESCWA Executive Secretary Mervat Tallawy said the road ahead was still long and fraught with difficulty for Arab women. She hoped for a consolidation of the national social efforts in all their aspects as well as international efforts to propel women to continue their path. Tallawy stressed the inaccuracy of saying Arab women are backward as this places the responsibility on them for a backward society.

Beirut, 28 March 2018 (Communication and Information Unit) --- Energy experts from the Arab region wrapped up a two-day meeting on Wednesday at the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) that explored the progress made by Arab countries to reach United Nations global goals related to sustainable energy.
