11 December 2014	Arab Dignitaries and Senior Officials Take Part in ESCWA 28th Ministerial Session	On 17 September 2014, Arab ministers and senior regional and foreign officials took part today in the opening of the 28th ministerial session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), a key regional event hosted by the Tunisian government, and held under the patronage of the President of the Republic, Mr. Moncef Al Marzouki. In the opening session, Arab and foreign diplomats and senior officials listened to statements that echoed Arab concerns and aspirations towards a better tomorrow guided by social justice.
17 May 2018	ESCWA condemns Israeli actions in Gaza	Beirut, 17 May 2018 (Communication and Information Unit)--The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) condemns the killing of 61 Palestinians, including 6 children, by Israeli forces on 14 May 2018 during a demonstration at the border fence in Gaza. The apparent disproportionate use of force, namely the use of live ammunition against unarmed demonstrators, constitutes another violation of international humanitarian law and a disregard for human life and dignity on the part of the Israeli military.
27 October 2016	Khawla Mattar Receives United Nations Secretary-General Award for Courage	ESCWA Deputy Executive Secretary Khawla Mattar received the UN Secretary-General Award for Courage, in a ceremony held 25 October 2016 in New York, on the occasion of the United Nations Staff Day. The United Nations Secretary-General Awards recognize the outstanding work of Secretariat staff members who contribute above and beyond the call of duty and advance innovative projects. Ms Mattar received the award for courage, honoring her work in accomplishing her tasks and upholding the values of the United Nations in a physically dangerous environment.
5 August 2019	ESCWA Chief holds high-level meetings in Amman	Beirut-Amman, 30 July 2019 (ESCWA)--Today, ESCWA Executive Secretary, Rola Dashti, led a delegation in a visit to Amman, Jordan, where she held a series of high-level meetings. Dashti met with HRH Prince ElHassan bin Talal who expressed hope in the critical role that ESCWA can play in a multilateral and institutional reconstruction phase of the Arab countries emerging from conflict. 11 December 2014	Jordanian Capital Hosts Four Major ESCWA Events	The Jordanian capital Amman will host four major events for the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) from Sunday 6 October until Sunday 13 October 2013. 11 December 2014	UN-House in Beirut to Host a UN-ESCWA Regional Workshop on DevInfo	UN-ESCWA considers that there is an urgent need for member countries to enhance their capacities in compiling, disseminating and exchanging data and metadata. In this sense, the DevInfo statistical program provides the statistical community with a tool for effective working partnership among different data producers to facilitate exchanging a unified official statistics to relevant agencies and the regional commission in the region.
11 December 2014	Senior Officials Segment of Commission’s 27th Session Concludes, Accepts Tunisia as New Member	Beirut, 8 May 2012 (ESCWA Communication and Information Unit)— The member countries of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) unanimously accepted the Republic of Tunisia as a member of the Commission, to be brought up to the United Nations Economic and Social Council for final approval. Meanwhile, member countries also welcomed each of Libya’s and Morocco’s requests to join ESCWA. This step final approval by the ministerial Session Wednesday and reviewing in the member countries’ capitals before a final decision is made.
11 December 2014	ESCWA Executive Secretary: Global Economic Crisis Creates Many Hurdles for MDGs	The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Summit was held in New York from 20 to 22 September, and it was considered a landmark event since the MDGs seek to halve the number of poor people and to achieve significant targets in the areas of education, health, gender equality, sustainable development and the environment by 2015.

11 July 2016	ICT at the Service of Education, Healthcare and Agriculture	On 31 May and 1 June 2016, Amman hosted “The 3rd International Workshop on Applications of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in Education, Healthcare and Agriculture”, which was held at the Royal Scientific Society (RSS), the largest applied research institution Jordan. The Workshop was jointly organized by ESCWA, the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS), the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), the Inter-Islamic Network on Information Technology (INIT), in cooperation with RSS.
