Helsinki University Students Visit ESCWA, Get Briefed on its Objectives and Programmes |
Beirut, 16 May, 2012 (ESCWA Communications and Information Unit)- A group of Political Studies students from the University of Helsinki visited ESCWA today and explored its objectives and programmes. The students were briefed by Ms. Ahed Sboul, Chief, Conference Services Section on the opportunities provided by the Regional Commission and the challenges it is facing, especially following the drastic change that has occurred in the region since January 2011. |

Social Water Studies in MENA Region |
ESCWA Regional Advisor on Environment and Water Ralf Klingbeil participated in the conference on “Social Water Studies in the MENA Region” on September 27th and 28th 2014 at the German Jordanian University (GJU) in Madaba, Jordan. ESCWA contributed to the conference through a panel discussion, a presentation, as well as supporting participating scientists from Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia. |

ESCWA-Berytech Digital Arabic Content Competition in Lebanon Still Ongoing |
ESCWA and Berytech Technology and Health launched on 19 September the Digital Arabic Content (DAC) Competition in Lebanon for 2013, which is open for participation until 31 October 2013. A workshop was held in Beirut to launch the competition, and raise awareness on the importance of DAC for the Arab region and the opportunities it offers. It was attended by experts from the academic domain, the private sector, interested investors, and aspiring entrepreneurs. |

The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Summit was held in New York from 20 to 22 September, and it was considered a landmark event since the MDGs seek to halve the number of poor people and to achieve significant targets in the areas of education, health, gender equality, sustainable development and the environment by 2015. |

UNESCWA to back Egypt in National Population and Housing Census |
In support of the United Nations 2010 World Program of Population and Housing Censuses, adopted by the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in its resolution 2005/13, and under the patronage of the Prime Minister of Egypt, Mr. Ahmed Nazif, the United Nations Economic and Social commission for Western Asia (UNESCWA), is holding a national seminar on “Population, Housing and Establishment Censuses in the Context of Development" on 30-31 July 2006 at Conrad-Hotel, Cairo. |
